Reliance Industries Announces ₹1 Trillion CBG Investment Plan for Andhra Pradesh

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is set to invest ₹1 trillion in compressed biogas (CBG) plants in Andhra Pradesh, Executive Director Anant Ambani said on October 2, 2026, as per news reports.
The projects are to create more than 3 lakh jobs and bring nearly ₹60,000 crore in revenue to the state over the coming decades.
Ambani made the announcement at an event in Madanapalle, where the foundation stone was laid for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture.
CBG Push Gets Government Backing
The investment plan comes soon after the Centre launched GOBARdhan, a scheme aimed at increasing CBG production. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched the central sector scheme earlier this week.
The Union Cabinet has set aside ₹23,731 crore for the scheme, which will run from 2026-27 to 2035-36. The government wants domestic CBG production to rise nearly 10 times to about 5 million standard cubic metres per day (mscmd).
Reliance’s Agriculture Plans
RIL’s plans in Andhra Pradesh extend beyond biogas. The proposed Indian School of Agriculture will cover areas including artificial intelligence, drones, robotics, cloud computing, greenhouse technology and price intelligence.
Jio is expected to work with the institution on training programmes for millions of farmers through virtual classrooms in villages. Training will be available in Indian languages. Rural youth could also be trained to work as digitally enabled extension workers.
Investment in Rayalaseema
The Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub has an investment of ₹40,000 crore, Ambani said. He also referred to Reliance’s Jio Krishi platform and its bio-energy research and development centre in Jamnagar.
Andhra Pradesh has approved 388 mega projects since June 2024, Ambani said, citing state government figures.
These projects carry investment commitments of more than ₹14 trillion and could generate nearly 11 lakh jobs. About one-third of the investments are expected in Rayalaseema.
What the Plan Covers
RIL’s proposed ₹1 trillion investment will be directed towards CBG plants in Andhra Pradesh, with the projects linked to employment and state revenue. The company is also planning agriculture-related technology and training initiatives in the state.
