Power and transmission companies saw strong buying interest on Wednesday. The BSE Power index rose nearly 2% during the day, outperforming the broader market as investors remained positive about the sector’s growth outlook.
The rally was supported by strong earnings, rising order books and expectations of large investments in power infrastructure.
Several power equipment and transmission companies gained sharply:
Hitachi Energy India Limited hit a new record high, rising about 6% in intraday trade.
Siemens Energy India Limited jumped around 9–10% on heavy trading volumes and traded near its 52-week high.
GE Vernova T&D India Limited climbed about 9%, also trading close to its yearly high.
ABB India Limited and CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited gained around 4% each.
Strong Orders and Capacity Expansion
GE Vernova reported a strong year with record order bookings and execution.
Q4FY26 order inflow jumped 188% YoY to ₹8,610 crore.
The company plans to invest over ₹1,000 crore to expand capacity.
Meanwhile, Siemens Energy reported strong demand and a growing order backlog, which rose 22% YoY to ₹18,433 crore.
The Ministry of Power has proposed transferring the 33 kV network from DISCOMs to State Transmission Utilities (STUs). This move aims to:
Improve planning and coordination
Reduce electricity losses
Increase supply reliability
This policy change is expected to boost the transmission and distribution (T&D) segment significantly.
India’s power sector has shown major improvement in recent years:
AT&C losses dropped from over 25% in FY15 to 15% in FY25
DISCOMs reported ₹2,700 crore profit in FY25 after years of losses
The gap between power cost and revenue has reduced sharply
These improvements are creating a strong foundation for future investments and growth.
The rally in power stocks reflects strong sector fundamentals, improving financial health of utilities, and a massive investment cycle in transmission and electrification.
