Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework for establishing an Inter-State Transmission System.
The project, titled “Inter-Regional Strengthening between SR Grid and ER Grid,” will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, reinforcing POWERGRID’s leadership in large-scale transmission infrastructure.
POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent for the project on December 15, 2025. The transmission system involves the development of 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines passing through the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. In addition to the transmission lines, the project includes associated line bays and reactor works at both terminal ends, ensuring grid stability and efficient power flow.
The project is aimed at enhancing inter-regional power transfer capacity between the Southern Region (SR) and Eastern Region (ER) grids. Strengthening this corridor will support reliable evacuation of power, improve grid resilience, and facilitate optimal utilisation of generation resources across regions. The development is also expected to aid the integration of renewable energy by enabling smoother transmission across states.
On a consolidated basis and including gross lease receivables, the company reported a strong financial position in H1FY26, with net worth standing at ₹98,932 crore. Total income for the period came in at ₹23,115 crore, while EBITDA was robust at ₹19,109 crore, reflecting healthy operating performance.
Profit after tax amounted to ₹7,197 crore, underscoring sustained profitability. The asset base remained substantial, with gross fixed assets valued at ₹2,95,148 crore, highlighting the scale of operations. The capital structure stayed balanced, with a debt-to-equity mix of 58:42.
On December 16, 2025, POWERGRID share price opened at ₹262.15, touching the day’s low at ₹261.00, as of 10:23 AM on the NSE.
