State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) announced the acquisition of 2 key projects worth ₹3,375 crore. These projects aim to decongest heavily loaded transmission corridors, enhance power reliability, and support the seamless transfer of renewable energy across regions.

Project Details

  • Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission Limited: Acquired from PFC Consulting Ltd on October 16, 2025. The project involves building a new 765 kV substation at Prayagraj and transmission lines connecting Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
  • SR-WR Power Transmission Limited: Acquired from BPC REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd on October 17, 2025. The project includes a 765 kV transmission line across Karnataka and Maharashtra, strengthening energy flow between the Southern and Western grids.

Project Objectives

The projects will:

  • Facilitate integration of additional renewable energy, especially from Bidar pumped storage projects.
  • Enhance import/export capabilities of the Southern grid.
  • Improve overall grid stability and reliability.

POWERGRID’s Current Operations

As of September 30, 2025, POWERGRID operates 286 substations, over 1,80,864 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, and 5,81,831 MVA of transformation capacity. The company maintains more than 99.80% average transmission system availability by using advanced technology, automation, and digital solutions.

Power Grid Corporation of India Share Price Movement

Power Grid Corporation of India share price (NSE: POWERGRID) is currently trading at ₹289.70, up ₹1.10 or 0.38% as of 3:06 pm IST on October 23, 2025. The stock opened at ₹288.95, reached a high of ₹291.15, and touched a low of ₹288.00 during the day. POWERGRID has a market capitalisation of ₹2.69 lakh crore and a P/E ratio of 17.46.
