
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has announced the completion of its transmission scheme for the solar energy zone in Ananthpuram and Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The project, with a total capacity of 3,500 MW, was fully commissioned on June 24, 2026.
The transmission scheme was developed to support the solar energy zone in Ananthpuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW). The project was initially assigned to POWERGRID Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.
This entity was later amalgamated with POWERGRID Khawda II-C Transmission Limited, effective from March 1, 2026, as per the Ministry of Corporate Affairs order dated January 27, 2026.
The Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) was received on June 25, 2026, via email, confirming the project's commissioning. The project aims to enhance the transmission infrastructure required for the solar energy zone in Andhra Pradesh, contributing to the state's renewable energy capacity.
Initially entrusted to POWERGRID Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Limited, the project underwent a structural change with its amalgamation into POWERGRID Khawda II-C Transmission Limited. This change was sanctioned by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, ensuring streamlined operations and management.

The commissioning of this transmission scheme is a step towards bolstering the renewable energy infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. By facilitating the transmission of solar energy, the project supports the state's efforts to increase its renewable energy output and reduce dependency on non-renewable sources.
