Pine Labs Limited announced on February 19, 2026, that it has collaborated with OpenAI to integrate advanced AI models into its merchant ecosystem, aiming to develop Agentic Commerce solutions in India.
Pine Labs stated that it will embed OpenAI APIs into the core of its AI native infrastructure. The collaboration is positioned within India’s fintech ecosystem, which is projected to reach a valuation of $1.5 trillion by 2026. India’s digital payment volumes have surpassed 180 billion transactions annually, providing a large scale environment for AI driven financial workflows.
The initiative aims to move from deterministic processing models towards probabilistic reasoning systems. By integrating OpenAI’s intelligence layer, Pine Labs intends to enable autonomous financial actions within defined security and compliance guardrails.
The collaboration focuses on building a reasoning layer for commerce. Instead of relying solely on predefined if then logic, the infrastructure will be designed to interpret context and evaluate probabilities in financial workflows.
The system will operate within secure and compliant enterprise frameworks tailored for regulated financial environments.

The architecture will function alongside India’s digital payment rails, including UPI Reserve Pay, enabling conversational commerce use cases. Intelligent agents may be capable of handling defined tasks such as supplier negotiations, settlement optimisation and recurring bill management within preset user controls.
The deployment will operate within Pine Labs’ enterprise grade security systems, incorporating data isolation, encryption and human oversight where required. The company also plans to extend this agentic stack to its developer ecosystem to facilitate third party fintech application development.
