Petronet LNG is looking beyond its existing LNG business with a proposed joint venture in the compressed biogas space. Its Board has approved a plan to form a 50:50 venture with Gruner Renewable Energy Private Limited, as per the exchange filing. 

The proposed partnership will set up 10 CBG plants across India, with the project carrying an estimated capital outlay of ₹1,200 crore.  

10 Plants to Have 18 MT Daily Capacity 

Each plant is planned to produce 18 MT of CBG per day. Across all 10 locations, that would put the planned capacity at 18 MT per day. 

Petronet LNG and Gruner Renewable Energy will each hold a 50% stake in the proposed private limited joint venture.  

₹1,200 Crore Project 

The estimated capital outlay for the proposed CBG plant network is ₹1,200 crore. The joint venture is to be incorporated to take forward the project. 

Petronet LNG said additional details will be shared after the proposed JV is incorporated.  

About Petronet LNG 

Petronet LNG operates LNG regasification terminals at Dahej, Gujarat, and Kochi, Kerala, with a combined capacity of 27.5 MMTPA. 

It imports, stores, regasifies and supplies LNG to industries, power producers, fertiliser companies and city gas distributors.

Petronet LNG Share Price Performance  

As of 18 September 2026, at 12:34 PM, Petronet LNG Ltd share price is trading at ₹286.80 per share, reflecting a surge of 1.18% from the previous trading session. 

Conclusion 

The proposed JV gives Petronet LNG a new project in the CBG segment alongside its established LNG operations. The plan covers 10 plants with a combined capacity of 180 MT per day and an estimated ₹1,200 crore capital outlay.
