Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) to undertake joint research in critical minerals.
The agreement was formalised on 30 March 2026, as per a regulatory filing submitted to stock exchanges.
The collaboration is aligned with the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), under which CSIR-IMMT has been designated as a Centre of Excellence.
The institute is to support research in mineral processing and materials technology within this framework. The partnership is intended to follow the research priorities already outlined under the mission.
The agreement was signed by OIL’s Director (Exploration & Development) and the Director of CSIR-IMMT.
Senior officials from both sides were present, including the Chairman and Managing Director of OIL, functional directors, and scientists from the institute.
The MoU enables both organisations to jointly pursue research and development projects in the critical minerals segment.
This may include work related to exploration techniques, extraction processes, and material applications.
The arrangement provides a formal structure for collaboration rather than project-specific engagements.
OIL, a Maharatna public sector enterprise, brings experience in exploration and resource management, while CSIR-IMMT contributes technical expertise in mineral and materials research.
