NTPC Green Energy Ltd has strengthened its renewable energy portfolio with a major power purchase agreement (PPA). Its wholly owned subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), has signed an agreement with PTC India Ltd to supply 1,200 MW of solar power under a bilateral arrangement. The deal marks another significant milestone in the company's clean energy expansion strategy as India accelerates its transition towards renewable power.
The agreement was exchanged in the presence of senior officials from NTPC Green Energy, NTPC Renewable Energy, PTC India and ONGC NTPC Green Pvt. Ltd. (ONGPL).
According to the companies, the partnership will strengthen collaboration in promoting sustainable energy solutions and support India's growing renewable energy ambitions.
The latest agreement adds to NTPC Green Energy's expanding portfolio of clean energy projects and reinforces its position as one of the country's leading renewable energy developers.
The announcement follows another key milestone achieved earlier this year. In April 2026, NTPC Green Energy commissioned 150 MW of solar capacity at its 300 MW Rajasthan solar project.
The commissioned capacity belongs to Project Sixteen Renewable Power Pvt. Ltd., a step-down subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green Pvt. Ltd., the joint venture between ONGC and NTPC Green Energy. The unit was declared commercially operational from April 18, 2026, further boosting the company's renewable generation capacity.
The steady addition of new solar projects aligns with NTPC Green Energy's long-term objective of expanding its clean energy footprint across India.
For the quarter ended March 2026, NTPC Green Energy reported mixed financial performance despite strong operational growth.
The company posted a net profit of ₹197.1 crore, down 15.6% year-on-year from ₹233.3 crore.
However, revenue from operations increased 46.7% to ₹912.6 crore, compared with ₹622.3 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. EBITDA also rose 38.2% year-on-year to ₹774.5 crore, reflecting higher contributions from its expanding renewable energy portfolio.
The 1,200 MW solar power agreement with PTC India marks another important step in NTPC Green Energy's renewable energy expansion. Coupled with its recent capacity additions and robust revenue growth, the company continues to strengthen its position in India's clean energy sector. Investors are likely to monitor the execution of these projects and future capacity additions as the renewable energy market continues to grow.
