The broader smallcap segment traded on a mixed note in early trade on the National Stock Exchange of India, with the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index slipping 0.39% amid weak market breadth, on February 16, as of 9:56 AM. Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones, with 60 stocks trading lower against 37 gainers, indicating cautious sentiment among investors.

Top Gainers Lead Rally

Among the major gainers, shares of Natco Pharma Limited surged nearly 11% after strong buying interest pushed the stock above ₹910. Similarly, JB Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited gained close to 6%.

Real estate player Signature Global (India) Limited also posted solid gains of over 5%, supported by healthy volumes. Financial services firm KFin Technologies Limited advanced around 4%, while insurance stock Go Digit General Insurance Limited added over 3%.

Stocks Under Pressure

On the losing side, healthcare outsourcing company Sagility India Limited declined over 4% amid selling pressure.

Commodity exchange operator Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited slipped nearly 5% after a weak opening. New-age mobility player Ola Electric Mobility Limited fell over 6% as the stock hovered near recent lows.

Wind energy company Inox Wind Limited also declined sharply, while children’s retail platform operator Brainbees Solutions Limited, which operates the FirstCry brand, dropped more than 6%.

Market Breadth Signals Caution

Although some pharma and financial stocks are seeing buying interest, the overall negative advance-decline ratio suggests cautious investor sentiment in smallcap counters, especially after recent volatility.

Conclusion

Smallcap stocks remain stock-specific with pockets of strength in pharma and financial names, while profit booking continues in new-age and energy stocks. Investors are likely to stay selective as market volatility persists in the broader segment.
