Mphasis Share Price in Focus; Hosts Quantum Computing Challenge with Copa Airlines

Mphasis and Copa Airlines recently brought together teams from IITs in India and universities in Canada for the challenge, as per the exchange filing. The teams worked on a passenger re-accommodation problem using quantum computing and Copa Airlines data.
The problem is something airlines face when flights are cancelled or schedules change. The aim was to find better ways to move affected passengers to other flights without increasing the time taken to find a solution.
Teams Worked on a Real Airline Problem
The challenge looked at how passengers could be moved to alternate flights during disruptions. Teams had to identify affected flights and passengers, rank passengers, find suitable alternate flights, and then decide how passengers should be reassigned.
The teams used both quantum and traditional computing methods. Their solutions were then tested and compared based on their performance.
Nine Teams Reached the Second Phase
The first phase involved 22 IIT teams. Mphasis experts and IIT Madras faculty evaluated them and selected six teams for the next stage.
In the second phase, those six teams competed against three teams from the University of Calgary and the University of Lethbridge. The teams worked with real Copa Airlines data and used quantum computing infrastructure from Classiq, Multiverse Computing, and qBraid.
Mphasis, IIT Madras and Quantum City shortlisted three solutions for presentation to Copa Airlines' leadership. The winning teams will receive a cash prize and a joint certificate from Mphasis and Copa Airlines.
Mphasis Working on Quantum Computing
Mphasis' Airlines Vertical and its NEXT Labs worked with Copa Airlines to set up the problem, decide the data requirements and set the evaluation process.
The company has also launched two quantum-focused offerings, QOptiDecision™ for quantum-enhanced optimisation and qCryptsec™ for quantum-safe cybersecurity.
The challenge is part of Mphasis' work on using quantum computing for business problems. The company said it is working on research, talent development and quantum solutions for enterprise use.
