Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the retail price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by ₹2 per kg across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), as per recent reports.
The revised rates came into effect from midnight and cover Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas served by the company.
Following the latest revision, CNG will now cost ₹86 per kg. This is the second increase in CNG prices announced by MGL during the month.
The company has also revised domestic piped natural gas (PNG) rates. Domestic PNG prices have been increased by 50 paise per standard cubic metre (SCM), taking the rate to ₹52 per SCM.
PNG is supplied to households through MGL’s city gas network and is used for cooking purposes across the Mumbai region.
The increase in CNG prices is to raise fuel costs for vehicle owners who rely on the fuel for daily commuting. CNG is commonly used by taxis, auto-rickshaws, commercial vehicles, and private car owners across the Mumbai metropolitan area.
For households, the increase in PNG prices may result in a marginal rise in monthly cooking fuel expenses. The revisions come at a time when consumers are tracking changes in utility and transport-related costs.
MGL is among the country's largest city gas distribution companies. It supplies CNG and PNG to residential, commercial and transport customers across Mumbai and surrounding urban centres.
The company operates a network of CNG filling stations and gas pipelines serving millions of consumers in the region. Periodic revisions in retail fuel prices are generally linked to changes in procurement costs and market conditions.
