
As per Economic Times report, Maruti Suzuki announced that its rail based vehicle transportation reached a new peak in the calendar year 2025, reflecting the company’s emphasis on greener logistics.
The automaker moved 5,85,000 vehicles by rail, an 18 % increase from the previous year. Rail now accounts for 26% of the company’s outbound logistics, up from 5.1% in 2016.
The shift to rail avoided an estimated 87,904 metric tonnes of CO₂e emissions and saved more than 68.7 million litres of fuel, contributing to reduced road congestion and lower oil import dependence.
Rail based dispatch volumes grew over 7.5 times, rising from roughly 77,000 units in 2016 to the current 5,85,000 units. The proportion of rail transport in total logistics expanded from 5.1% to 26%.
Maruti Suzuki operates a hub and spoke system covering 22 locations and serving more than 600 cities. Since FY 2014‑15, the company has moved over 28,00,000 vehicles by rail. In 2025, in‑plant sidings at Gujarat and Manesar contributed 53% of total rail shipments.
