Larsen & Toubro (L&T), through its Energy CarbonLite Solutions business, has secured a Mega-value thermal power contract from NTPC Ltd after receiving a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) for the main plant package of the Lara Stage III project in Chhattisgarh, as per the exchange filings.
The order, which L&T classifies in the ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore "Mega" category, covers the construction of two 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units with a combined installed capacity of 1,600 MW.
The formal Notice to Proceed will be issued once the project receives environmental clearance and the LNTP period comes to an end.
L&T will execute the project on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis using ultra-supercritical technology, which delivers higher efficiency while reducing specific emissions.
The company's responsibilities span design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning.
The package includes boilers, steam turbines, generators, electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), air cooled condensers (ACC), auxiliaries, along with all associated mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation, and civil works.
Once operational, the plant will contribute 1,600 MW of dependable baseload power generation capacity to India's electricity grid.
According to the company, the project is intended to support the country's rising electricity demand driven by industrial expansion, urbanisation and infrastructure development.
T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director, Senior Executive Vice President & Head – Energy Hydrocarbon Division, L&T, said the award is the company's "third ultra-supercritical project from NTPC in the past two years" and reflects the utility's continued confidence in L&T's engineering and project execution capabilities.
He added that the company remains committed to delivering the project with the highest standards of "quality, safety and operational excellence."
