KP Group has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage and transmission infrastructure.
The partnership aligns with Botswana’s objective of transitioning towards a net-zero economy by 2030 while marking a key step in KP Group’s overseas expansion.
The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy, KP Energy and KP Green Engineering.
It provides a framework for joint planning, development and execution of renewable energy and associated transmission projects, aimed at strengthening energy security and positioning Botswana as a regional clean power exporter.
The proposed collaboration envisages capital investment of approximately $4 billion, or around ₹36,000 crore, across multiple renewable energy and infrastructure projects. These initiatives are expected to raise Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW.
The scope also includes construction and upgrading of high-voltage transmission lines within the country, along with enhanced cross-border interconnections to facilitate regional electricity trade.
As part of the agreement, KP Group will support 30 scholarships annually for citizens of Botswana in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability and allied disciplines.
The initiative is aimed at developing local skills, enabling knowledge transfer and creating a talent pipeline to support Botswana’s long-term clean energy ambitions.
