Travel booking platform ixigo is taking a big step into artificial intelligence with the launch of its new AI-powered travel app. The company has revamped its platform with smarter travel tools, a more interactive AI assistant called TARA, and automated features aimed at making travel planning smoother and less stressful.

The announcement was made at ixigo NEXT, the company’s flagship product event, where ixigo showcased how it plans to use AI not just for bookings, but across the entire travel journey.

TARA Can Now Help Users Plan Trips Like A Real Travel Assistant

At the centre of the new app is TARA, ixigo’s upgraded AI travel assistant. Unlike traditional booking apps that rely mainly on filters and search bars, TARA allows users to interact more naturally through voice, text, or taps.

Travellers can ask questions in English, Hindi, or Hinglish and receive personalised suggestions for flights, hotels, and itineraries. Whether someone is looking for a budget-friendly weekend getaway or planning a detailed vacation, the app aims to make the process feel more conversational.

ixigo says the assistant also learns from user preferences and travel history to offer more relevant recommendations over time.

Trip Mode Brings All Travel Updates Into One Place on ixigo

One of the most practical additions is “Trip Mode,” a feature designed to simplify the post-booking experience.

The tool gathers boarding passes, gate numbers, terminal information, baggage belt updates, and travel alerts into a single screen. It can even remind users when to leave for the airport based on live traffic conditions.

The company has also introduced AI-driven automation features that can handle certain travel-related tasks automatically. These include sharing boarding passes on WhatsApp, updating flight changes in real time, helping process refunds during cancellations, and coordinating with hotels before check-in.

AI Becoming Central to Travel Apps

As competition in the online travel market grows, companies are increasingly turning to AI to improve user experience and customer retention.

Founded in 2007, ixigo said its platforms, including ConfirmTkt and AbhiBus, recorded more than 54 crore annual active users in FY25.

Conclusion

With its latest AI-focused revamp, ixigo is trying to make travel planning feel less complicated and more intuitive. By combining conversational AI with real-time travel support and automated assistance, the company is positioning itself to meet the growing demand for smarter and more personalised travel experiences.
