IndiGo has revised several allowances paid to pilots, raising existing rates, and adding higher payments for certain duties.
As per Reuters, the changes will take effect from January 1, 2026, according to an internal email sent to pilots by the airline’s flight operations team.
Layover allowances for captains have been increased to ₹3,000 from ₹2,000, while first officers will now receive ₹1,500, up from ₹1,000.
Allowances for “deadheading”, where crew members travel as passengers to position themselves for upcoming flights, have also been revised.
Captains will be paid ₹4,000, compared with ₹3,000 earlier, while 1st officers will receive ₹2,000, an increase of ₹500.
The decision follows large-scale disruptions earlier this month, when IndiGo cancelled around 4,500 flights over a short period. The cancellations were linked to issues in crew rostering and scheduling and affected services across the country.
The disruption left hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded and led to congestion at several airports.
IndiGo, which has a domestic market share of about 65%, has since faced closer scrutiny from regulators. A competition-related probe into the airline’s conduct has also been initiated.

As of December 30, 2025, 11:21 am, InterGlobe Aviation (Indigo) share price was trading at ₹5,002, a 1.64% decrease from the previous closing price.
The revised allowances were announced after IndiGo’s senior executives held discussions with pilots at several bases. The changes come as the airline works to restore normal operations while regulatory reviews and assessments continue.
