IndiGo Leads Market Share at 67.4%, Air India Group at 24%, SpiceJet Falls to 1.6% in July 2026

The Domestic airlines in India carried approximately 1.2 crore passengers in July 2026, which saw a 5% decline compared to last year. 

SpiceJet's market share in the aviation market declined to 1.6%, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, as per NDTV Profit report. 

IndiGo's Dominance in the Aviation Market 

IndiGo retained its position as the leading airline in the domestic market with a 67.4% market share. The airline transported 80.82 lakh passengers in July 2026, further solidifying its dominance in the sector. Despite this strong performance, shares of InterGlobe Aviation, IndiGo's parent company, fell over 1% on August 21, 2026. 

Air India Group's Position 

The Air India Group maintained its status as the second-largest airline operator in India with a 24% market share. The group carried 28.75 lakh passengers during the month of July 2026, reflecting its significant presence in the domestic aviation market. 

SpiceJet's Declining Market Share 

SpiceJet experienced a further decline in its market share, dropping to 1.6% in July 2026. This decrease highlights the challenges the airline faces in maintaining its competitive position within the industry.

On-Time Performance of Airlines 

IndiGo achieved the highest on-time performance at 91.2%, closely followed by Akasa Air at 90.8%. Air India recorded an on-time performance of 86.5%, while SpiceJet lagged significantly with an on-time performance of 34.5% in July 2026.

In July 2026, IndiGo led the domestic aviation market with a 67.4% share, carrying 80.82 lakh passengers. Air India Group held 24% market share, transporting 28.75 lakh passengers. SpiceJet's market share fell to 1.6% with an on-time performance of 34.5%.
