IEX Share Price in Focus as September 2026 Electricity Trading Volume Rises 10.4%

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) saw higher trading volumes in September as electricity demand stayed strong across the country. The exchange traded 12,220 million units (MU) of electricity during the month, compared with the same month last year.
Q2 Electricity Trading Volume Up 12.7%
IEX traded 39,685 MU of electricity in Q2 FY27, which was 12.7% higher than the same quarter last year.
The average price in the Day-Ahead Market was ₹5.7 per unit, up 46% year-on-year. In the Real-Time Market, the average price rose 49% to ₹5.2 per unit.
September 2026 Prices See Sharp Rise
Power prices were much higher in September. The average Day-Ahead Market price stood at ₹7.3 per unit, up 105% from a year earlier.
The Real-Time Market also saw a sharp increase, with the average price rising 108% to ₹6.9 per unit. IEX said strong power demand led to a 281% increase in buy bids in the Day-Ahead Market.
Real-Time Market Volume Rises 10.6%
The Real-Time Market recorded 5,294 MU in September, compared with 4,786 MU in September 2025. This was a 10.6% increase.
For the full second quarter, RTM volume stood at 16,490 MU, up 10.5% year-on-year.
The Day-Ahead Market, including HPDAM, saw a smaller increase. Its September volume was 4,251 MU against 4,228 MU a year earlier, up just 0.5%.
Term-Ahead Market Volume Doubles
The Day-Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market recorded 1,939 MU in September, compared with 967 MU in September 2025.
For Q2 FY27, the segment handled 5,477 MU, more than double the 2,719 MU recorded in the year-ago quarter.
Green Market, REC Trading Decline
Not all segments saw growth. IEX's Green Market volume fell 32% year-on-year to 737 MU in September from 1,084 MU.
Trading of Renewable Energy Certificates also fell. A total of 5.25 lakh RECs were traded in September, down 16.2% from a year earlier.

IEX Share Price Performance
As of October 6, 2026, at 10:48 AM, IEX share price was trading at ₹105.25 per share, reflecting a 0.91% surge from the previous trading session.
Conclusion
IEX had a good September in terms of electricity trading volumes, with total volume rising 10.4% and RTM volume increasing 10.6%. Q2 FY27 also saw 12.7% growth in total electricity traded volume. At the same time, the Green Market and REC segments recorded lower volumes during the month.
