
On July 22, 2026, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) released its consolidated unaudited financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, as per the exchange filings.
The company reported a total income of ₹1,45,844.01 crore, marking a 20.8% increase year-on-year from ₹1,20,700.34 crore and a 17.3% rise quarter-on-quarter from ₹1,24,313.37 crore in March 2026.
However, the company faced a net loss of ₹12,264.67 crore, a stark contrast to the net profit of ₹4,110.93 crore recorded in the June 2025 quarter.
This also represents a shift from the net profit of ₹6,065.26 crore in the March 2026 quarter.
For the financial year 2026, HPCL's total income stood at ₹4,81,122.12 crore. Despite the quarterly loss, the company achieved a net profit (PAT) of ₹18,046.89 crore for the year.
The bottom line was primarily impacted by sharp increases across operational expenditure categories. The cost of materials consumed jumped substantially to ₹63,562.06 crore from ₹36,542.67 crore in the previous year's first quarter.
Concurrently, purchases of stock-in-trade rose to ₹91,982.55 crore up from ₹59,425.62 crore year-on-year, driving total standalone expenses to ₹1,63,853.40 crore.
In terms of physical performance metrics, HPCL recorded a crude throughput of 6.52 million metric tonnes (MMT) during the quarter. Total market sales reached 13.12 MMT, combining domestic sales of 12.24 MMT and exports of 0.88 MMT.
Notably, the company's average Gross Refining Margin (GRM) improved significantly to US $23.80 per BBL from US $3.08 per BBL in the same period last year, prior to factoring export duties. However, suppressed marketing margins on specific petroleum products severely constrained overall profitability.
