Hindustan Aeronautics Share Price Surges; Signs Pact with Adani Defence and BEML to Produce Light Combat Helicopters

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed agreements with Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited (ADSTL) and Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for manufacturing fuselage structures for the Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), as per The Hindu news reports.
BEML is to manufacture 48 fuselage structures, while Adani Defence will manufacture 42. The agreements cover a total of 90 structures for the LCH programme.
₹62,700 Crore Prachand Order
The agreements come as HAL is working on an order for 156 Prachand helicopters for the Indian Armed Forces. The Ministry of Defence signed two contracts with HAL on March 28, 2025, valued at ₹62,700 crore.
Out of the total order, 66 helicopters are reportedly for the Indian Air Force and 90 are for the Indian Army. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2028, with supplies planned over five years after the initial delivery period.
Production at Tumakuru
HAL has started production of the 156 helicopters at its new helicopter manufacturing facility in Tumakuru, Karnataka. The company has also established two additional production lines for the LCH programme.
The additional lines are part of HAL’s manufacturing arrangements for the order. The company has said the expanded production base will also involve Indian MSMEs, component manufacturers and aerospace suppliers.
BEML and Adani Defence Join LCH Supply Chain
The agreements bring BEML and Adani Defence into the manufacture of LCH fuselage structures. HAL said the involvement of private industry in helicopter fuselage production is a first for the programme.
The agreements were signed by Tushar Ranjan Behera, General Manager, Helicopter Division, HAL, with BEML Executive Director R G K Rao and ADSTL Vice-President Prasanna Karthik.
Prachand LCH Details
The Prachand is a 5.5-tonne class combat helicopter designed and developed by HAL. It is to operate at altitudes above 5,000 metres and is intended for high-altitude operations.
The helicopter has a narrow fuselage and tandem seating for the pilot and co-pilot/Weapon System Operator. It also has reduced radar and infrared signatures and crashworthy landing gear.
