Freedom 2.0: BSNL Announces ₹1 SIM Card and Special Offers to Mark 80th Independence Day

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced its ‘Freedom 2.0’ offer for the 80th Independence Day, as per The Hindu news report. The scheme is available from August 12 to September 12, 2026, for new mobile connections. 

A new BSNL SIM can be obtained for ₹1 under the offer. It includes unlimited calls to any network in India, 1GB data per day and 100 SMS per day, with the benefits available for 24 days. 

New Customers Only 

The ₹1 offer is applicable only to new SIM activations. Existing BSNL customers cannot use the offer to recharge their current numbers. 

Customers can get a new connection through BSNL Customer Service Centres or authorised retailers. The 24-day validity applies to the benefits included with the new connection. 

₹2,399 Mobile Plan 

BSNL has also announced a ₹2,399 mobile plan with a validity of 412 days. It provides unlimited calls, 2GB data and 100 SMS per day. 

The ₹1 offer is similar to schemes introduced by BSNL in October 2025 and April 2026. Both were offered for limited periods, with the operator referring to demand for the plans. 

Customer Base in Dakshina Kannada 

In the Dakshina Kannada Telecom District (DKTD), BSNL has more than 4.75 lakh mobile customers. The district’s subscribers use around 42TB of mobile data each day. 

Nearly 700 mobile towers are currently operational in the district. BSNL has also installed 89 new 4G base transceiver stations in remote and inaccessible villages where private operators do not have network coverage. 

Around 60% of the 4G rollout in the district has been completed. BSNL has said that 5G services will be taken up after the 4G infrastructure is fully established. 

Fibre Broadband 

For new fibre broadband connections, the first month will be free. Customers will pay ₹399 per month for the next three months after a ₹100 discount, followed by the regular ₹499 monthly plan from the fifth month. 

BSNL is replacing existing copper wire connections with fibre optic cables. Network issues in Sullia and other rural areas are also being discussed with MESCOM.
