DMart Parent Avenue Supermarts Share Price in Focus; Approves ₹500 Crore Investment in Avenue E-Commerce

DMart parent Avenue Supermarts has cleared an investment of up to ₹500 crore in its online grocery arm, Avenue E-Commerce, which operates DMart Ready, The Economic Times report.
The decision was approved at Wednesday’s AGM. Avenue Supermarts had already invested ₹350 crore in the subsidiary in FY26, with total capital now potentially nearing ₹2,000 crore.
Online Unit Reports Higher Revenue
Avenue E-Commerce reported revenue of ₹4,094 crore in FY26, compared with ₹3,502 crore in the previous financial year, marking an increase of 17%.
Its losses, however, also rose during the year. The online grocery arm reported a loss of ₹307 crore in FY26, against ₹247 crore in FY25.
Delivery Network Expands During FY26
Avenue E-Commerce expanded its delivery operations during FY26, taking its home-delivery service to 18 cities and adding eight fulfilment centres. It also spent on technology and customer interfaces.
The company continued to invest in the operations supporting DMart Ready during the financial year.
Business Now Concentrated in 11 Cities
Avenue Supermarts has narrowed its focus to 11 cities, which account for most of DMart Ready’s online business. The move follows the broader expansion of its delivery network during the year.
Managing Director and CEO Anshul Asawa told investors that the company had decided to concentrate on these markets rather than spread its online operations across a larger number of cities.
Further Capital for Online Business
The ₹500 crore investment will add to the capital already invested by Avenue Supermarts in its online subsidiary. The decision comes after a year in which Avenue E-Commerce reported growth in revenue alongside a widening loss.
The company is continuing its investment in DMart Ready while focusing its operations on the cities where most of its online sales are generated.
