Defence Stocks Rally: HAL, Mazagon Dock, BDL, Midhani and GRSE Jump Up to 6%

Defence-related stocks witnessed strong buying interest on August 6, with several public and private sector companies rising by as much as 6% during intraday trading on the NSE.
Among the top gainers were Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI), Bharat Dynamics (BDL), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Cochin Shipyard, MTAR Technologies, Dynamatic Technologies, Zen Technologies, Paras Defence, and BEML.
At around 12:41 PM, the Nifty India Defence Index was the best-performing thematic index, gaining 2.6% to 9,641.50, while the Nifty 50 was up only 0.08%.
Government Support Continues to Boost the Sector
The Union Budget for FY27 allocated ₹7.85 trillion to the Ministry of Defence, representing a 15% increase over the previous year's Budget Estimate.
Other policy measures supporting the sector include:
- Higher foreign direct investment (FDI) limits under the automatic route.
- Greater focus on domestic manufacturing through indigenisation initiatives.
- Increased investment in research and development.
- Measures to encourage defence exports.
These initiatives aim to reduce dependence on imports while strengthening India's defence manufacturing capabilities.
