
As per PTI news report, BPCL, in collaboration with Sembcorp, has embarked on a significant venture in the energy sector by finalising an agreement to supply green hydrogen to Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL).
This initiative aligns with India's commitment to sustainable energy and industrial decarbonisation.
NeuEN Green Energy Pvt. Ltd, a joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Ltd, is set to deliver 10,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen to Numaligarh Refinery Ltd by 2028.
This agreement is supported by a long-term offtake contract, which includes the development of a dedicated green hydrogen production facility at NRL's Assam refinery.
Sanjay Khanna, Chairman & Managing Director of BPCL, stressed the importance of this venture as a crucial step in BPCL's journey towards a sustainable energy portfolio.
The project reflects the evolving green hydrogen sector and demonstrates the potential for competitive bidding to foster market-friendly solutions.
Vipul Tuli, President & CEO of Renewables and CEO of Hydrogen Business at Sembcorp, described this project as a major advancement in India's green hydrogen goals.
It aligns with Sembcorp's broader mission to support a lower carbon energy future, backed by strong long-term offtake agreements.
