
Bharti Airtel has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Karnataka Licensed Service Area (LSA), imposing a penalty of ₹2.08 lakh for an alleged violation of subscriber verification norms.
The company disclosed the development through a regulatory filing and stated that it has opted to pay the penalty.
According to the filing, the Department of Telecommunications has imposed a penalty of ₹2,08,000 on the telecom operator.
The notice relates to alleged non-compliance with subscriber verification requirements under the telecom licence agreement.
The regulator conducts periodic Customer Application Form (CAF) audits to verify whether telecom operators are complying with subscriber verification guidelines.
Following its CAF audit for April 2026, the DoT alleged violations related to subscriber verification norms under the licence agreement.
Bharti Airtel stated that it has decided to pay the penalty and will not challenge the order.
The company received the communication from the authority on June 16, 2026.
The telecom operator noted that the maximum financial implication arising from the matter is limited to the amount of penalty imposed. No broader operational impact was disclosed by the company in its filing.
