Bharat Forge Ltd and Pratt & Whitney Canada are to evaluate the integration of turboprop engines into a high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programme developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), as per and exchange filing dated September 15, 2026. 

Pratt & Whitney Canada is part of RTX. The collaboration is part of India’s plans to develop indigenous unmanned aerial systems under the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.  

Pratt & Whitney to Assess Engine 

Pratt & Whitney Canada will examine engine compatibility, performance and installation requirements. The work will assess whether its advanced turboprop engines can meet the requirements of the next-generation HALE unmanned aircraft.  

For this programme, its role is focused on engine evaluation and related requirements. 

Bharat Forge to Handle Integration 

Bharat Forge will lead the engine-airframe integration work. This includes installation design and systems interfaces required to connect the engine with the aircraft.  

Bharat Forge is based in Pune and has operations across automotive, aerospace, defence, rail, marine, energy and industrial sectors.  

Scope of the UAV Programme 

The HALE UAV is intended for long-duration surveillance, intelligence and reconnaissance across land and maritime domains. The programme involves an unmanned aircraft designed to operate for extended periods while carrying out these functions.  

Bharat Forge Aerospace works on the design, development and manufacture of aerospace, defence and marine systems, structures and components. The business also works with global aerospace companies through collaborations.

As of September 16, 2026, 1:40 pm, Bharat Forge share price was trading at ₹1,876.50, a 0.70% decrease from the previous closing price.
