Bajaj Auto Foundation Unveils ₹1,500 Crore Plan Over 5 Years; Allocates ₹400 Crore for Women Engineers

Bajaj Auto Foundation has unveiled a ₹1,500 crore investment plan over 5 years and committed ₹400 crore towards a scholarship programme for women pursuing engineering.

Bajaj Auto Foundation has announced a multi-year investment programme covering skilling, education and community development, alongside a dedicated scholarship initiative for women in engineering, as per news reports.  

The announcements include a ₹1,500 crore investment over the next 5 years and a separate ₹400 crore commitment for the Rupa Rahul Bajaj Scholarship for Women in Engineering over the next decade. 

Foundation Unveils ₹1,500 Crore Investment Plan 

The foundation's investment programme will span 5 years and focus on skilling initiatives, educational programmes and community development activities. 

In addition to this allocation, the organisation has committed ₹400 crore over 10 years to support the Rupa Rahul Bajaj Scholarship for Women in Engineering, a programme aimed at encouraging participation in core engineering disciplines. 

Scholarship Covers 506 Students Across 40 Institutions 

The inaugural batch of the scholarship programme comprises 506 students selected from 40 engineering institutions, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). 

Eligible students will receive financial assistance of up to ₹8 lakh during their engineering education.  

The programme also includes mentorship opportunities, leadership development, industry immersion and access to professional networks. 

Focus On Engineering Talent Development 

According to Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd, women now account for nearly 20% of the company's workforce, compared with virtually no representation in its operations workforce around a decade ago. 

During the launch event, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson and Founder of Biocon Ltd, said increasing women's participation in engineering and manufacturing is important for inclusion and economic competitiveness.
