Bharti Airtel will increase its presence in financial services, cloud computing and data centres after spending more than ₹3.3 lakh crore on telecom and digital infrastructure over the past decade, Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said in the company's 2025-26 annual report, as per news reports.
The company said these businesses are expected to form the next phase of its expansion alongside its core telecom operations.
Airtel Money received approval from the Reserve Bank of India in February to operate as a non-deposit-taking non-banking financial company (NBFC).
As per PTI news report, Airtel had earlier announced an investment of ₹20,000 crore in the business over the coming years, with 70% of the funding to come from Bharti Airtel and the balance from Bharti Enterprises.
The annual report also outlined progress in Airtel Cloud. The company said its sovereign cloud platform has signed more than 24 customer contracts.
Airtel's data centre business, Nxtra, is targeting installed capacity of 1 GW over the next few years, compared with about 300 MW at present.
Earlier this year, the subsidiary raised $1 billion from existing investor Carlyle and new investors Alpha Wave Global and Anchorage Capital, while Bharti Airtel retained a controlling stake. Mittal said demand for data centres is being supported by increasing cloud adoption and data localisation requirements.
He also referred to the government's long-term tax incentives for cloud and AI-led data centre investments, which are expected to encourage additional capital investment in the sector.
The company added more than 43,000 km of fibre during FY26 and continued the transition of its mobile network to standalone 5G architecture. Airtel ended the year with 188 million 5G customers, while its 5G Plus network accounted for around half of wireless data traffic.
Mobile revenue market share increased to 39.7% from 39.5% in the previous year, despite no tariff revision.

Bharti Airtel's latest annual report outlines a greater focus on financial services, cloud computing and data centres, alongside continued investment in its telecom network and digital infrastructure.
