Torrent Power Limited, one of India’s leading private sector integrated power utilities, has successfully completed its ₹3,500 crore (approximately USD 413.20 million) Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP).
Strong Investor Response
The QIP received a robust response from a wide range of investors, including domestic mutual funds, global investors, and insurance companies. This strong interest reflects investor confidence in the company’s fundamentals and in India’s growing power sector.
The QIP was significantly oversubscribed, with demand nearly 4 times the issue size, as bids totalling approximately ₹14,000 crore were received. The base issue size was ₹3,500 crore. The issue was fully placed with prestigious long-only investors, including SBI Mutual Fund, Capital Group, SBI Pension, Kotak Mutual Fund, Nippon Mutual Fund, Norges Bank, and Amundi.
This marks the maiden equity raise by Torrent Power and the first such raise in nearly 3 decades for the Torrent Group. The QIP is also one of the largest fundraisings by a private utility player in India during the current financial year.
Strong Growth Prospects
The successful completion of the QIP highlights Torrent Power’s solid credentials and reinforces its position as one of the fastest-growing companies in India’s power sector. The QIP was launched on December 2, 2024, and concluded on December 5, 2024.
Mr Samir Mehta, Chairman of Torrent Group, said “We are delighted with the overwhelming response to our QIP. The strong response to the QIP is a testament to the market’s conviction in Torrent’s growth strategy, execution capabilities, operational excellence and best-in-class capital allocation. This capital raise will strengthen our balance sheet and accelerate our growth plans. We are grateful to our investors for reposing their trust in us.”
