Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant in Pune, India. Alongside this milestone, Mahindra has announced the launch of premium electric SUVs—BE 6 and XEV 9e—showcasing its commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility.
Key Features of the Chakan Facility
Located within Mahindra’s 2.83 km² manufacturing hub, the Chakan plant integrates cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices. It operates entirely on renewable energy and is designed to be water-positive, reinforcing Mahindra’s focus on efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility.
Advanced Manufacturing Systems
- Fully automated press shop, AI-powered body shop, and robotic paint shop.
- Over 500 robots and IoT-based monitoring systems ensure quality and traceability.
- Industry 4.0 technologies like Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) streamline operations.
High-Tech Battery Assembly Line
Mahindra’s Chakan facility also houses one of the world’s most compact and advanced battery manufacturing setups. It focuses on producing high-performance, long-lasting batteries using patented insulation and geometric designs.

Pricing and Variants
Mahindra has announced the prices for its premium electric SUVs, BE 6 and XEV 9e, starting at ₹18.90 lakh and ₹21.90 lakh, respectively. The top-end Pack Three variants are priced at ₹26.9 lakh for BE 6 and ₹30.5 lakh for XEV 9e, featuring a monthly EMI option through Mahindra Finance’s “Three for Me” programme.
Advanced Features
Built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform, both models feature:
- Powerful Performance – 210 kW motor enabling acceleration from 0-100 km/h in under 7 seconds.
- Long Range – Certified ranges of 683 km for BE 6 and 656 km for XEV 9e.
- Rapid Charging – 20–80% charge in under 20 minutes with a 175 kW DC charger.
- Smart Interiors – Augmented Reality Heads-Up Display, 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and ambient lighting with preset themes.
- Safety Features – ADAS Level 2+, 7 airbags, and a 360-degree monitoring system.
Booking and Test Drive Timeline
- Preferences opened on 7 January 2025.
- Phased test drives begin on 14 January 2025 in select cities.
- Bookings for both models start on 14 February 2025, with deliveries expected in March 2025.
Market Performance Update
As of 11:31 am on January 8, 2025, Mahindra & Mahindra’s share price was trading 0.39% higher on the NSE, following the facility inauguration and product launch.
