Anil Ambani has voluntarily expressed intent to fully cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an inquiry dating back to 2010 under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), clarifying that the matter concerns a domestic project and not violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

ED Summons Anil Ambani in FEMA Case, No PMLA Link Involved

Anil Ambani’s official spokesperson confirmed on November 14, 2025, that the summons issued by the ED are strictly in connection with a FEMA inquiry connected to the 2010 Jaipur-Reengus highway project. Rejecting contrary media reports, the spokesperson clarified that this was a case of misreporting without fact verification. The issue involves a domestic EPC contract executed by Reliance Infrastructure Ltd and has no foreign exchange component.

With highlighting details from a November 3, 2025, official ED release, the spokesperson pointed out that the Investigation pertains to project execution only. Notably, the expressway in question was completed and came under the jurisdiction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) from 2021.

Ambani’s Role and Offer of Virtual Appearance

During the timeline of the project, Anil Ambani served purely as a non-executive director of Reliance Infrastructure from April 2007 to March 2022. He played no part in the project’s day-to-day functioning or operational decisions. The spokesperson highlighted that as of now, Ambani holds no position on the board.

Offering full cooperation, Ambani conveyed his willingness to appear virtually before the ED. His legal team has contacted the agency seeking alignment on next procedural steps, to ensure compliance with legal obligations while maintaining factual clarity.

Jaipur-Reengus Highway: Context of the FEMA Case

The 2010 Jaipur-Reengus Toll Road development was awarded to Reliance Infrastructure under a domestic EPC model. The inquiry arose as part of routine FEMA scrutiny involving road contracting firms. No international remittances or funds were linked to this project. The scope remains limited to project-level examination of procedural records.

Conclusion

Anil Ambani has made his position clear in the 15-year-old FEMA case, asserting transparency and his intent to comply with ED procedures. The clarification regarding absence of any PMLA link helps diffuse confusion caused by misreporting. The case remains a procedural inquiry under FEMA norms related to a completed domestic infrastructure project.
