Union Labour Minister Launches EPFO WhatsApp Services; Allows Members to Check PF Balance and Access Passbook Details

Checking PF details is now easier for EPFO subscribers. The organisation has introduced a WhatsApp service that allows members to check their account balance, view recent transactions and download their passbooks directly on their phones.
Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the facility on November 1, 2026, during EPFO's 74th Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi.
PF Services Now Available on WhatsApp
Members can access the service by saving EPFO's WhatsApp number, 8796441800, and sending a 'Hi' message.
They will then need to verify their identity using the mobile number registered with their Universal Account Number (UAN). Once verified, they can select the required service from the available options.
Steps to Check PF Balance Through WhatsApp
After saving the number and starting a conversation, members need to complete the mobile number verification process.
They can then choose whether they want to check their PF balance, view their latest transactions or download their passbook. This gives subscribers a way to access basic account information without navigating EPFO's existing online platforms.
WhatsApp Facility Also Covers PMVBRY
The service will also help members with requirements under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).
It will provide personalised guidance to subscribers whose benefits are pending because of incomplete Aadhaar authentication or other documentation-related issues.
EPFO Introduces Automatic Settlement for Small Accounts
At the same Foundation Day event, EPFO introduced automatic settlement for eligible inoperative accounts carrying balances of up to ₹1,000.
Members with Aadhaar-verified accounts will not have to file individual claims. EPFO will complete the necessary identity and bank account checks before transferring the eligible amount.
Around one lakh accounts involving approximately ₹5 crore are expected to benefit from this facility.
EPFO Manages Nearly ₹32 Lakh Crore in Retirement Savings
EPFO currently serves around 8 crore contributory members and 85 lakh pensioners. Its retirement corpus stands at nearly ₹32 lakh crore.
The organisation also reported that its average claim settlement time came down to 2.57 days in October 2026.

The WhatsApp service brings everyday PF account information closer to subscribers, while the automatic settlement facility addresses small balances stuck in inactive accounts. Both changes expand the ways members can access their provident fund savings.
