PFRDA Defers Revised Charge Structure for PoPs Under NPS & NPS Lite to December 1, 2026

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has delayed the implementation of the revised charge structure for Points of Presence (PoPs) under the National Pension System (NPS) and NPS Lite to December 1, 2026.
This deferment was announced in a circular issued on October 26, 2026, overriding the earlier deadline set for October 1, 2026.
PFRDA Revised Implementation Timeline for NPS Charges
PFRDA's circular of October 26, 2026, extended the previously indicated date for implementing the revised charge structure as stated in their circular from August 28, 2026.
The new effective date for the revision is now December 1, 2026. The revised charge structure concerns the deduction of applicable charges from NPS and NPS Lite subscribers using services through PoPs.
Points of Presence act as intermediaries facilitating services related to NPS, such as account opening and transaction management for pension queries.
Central Recordkeeping Agencies are tasked with maintaining subscriber records and ensuring efficient administration. Despite the extension of the deadline, no changes were made to the content of the revised charges outlined in the August 28, 2026, circular.
Role of Points of Presence in NPS
PoPs are crucial in aiding subscribers through the NPS framework, managing accounts and enabling pension-related transactions. This role ensures the smooth functioning and execution of subscriber services as laid out in NPS guidelines.
The deferred implementation signifies a readiness to ensure that processes and charges are well-understood and feasible.
New Effective Date for Revised Charges
Enabling readiness for the new charge structure, PFRDA has mandated CRAs to adjust the deduction processes in line with the revised timeline.
As of now, all provisions other than the implementation date remain in effect as per the original layout shared in the earlier circular.
