In a significant move to support farmers before the Nuakhai festival, the Odisha government, under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, is releasing ₹1,041 crore to benefit over 51 lakh farmers as part of the CM Kisan Yojana for the 2025-26 Rabi season, as per news reports.
The CM Kisan Yojana provides direct financial aid to small and marginal farmers owning less than 2 hectares of land. Each eligible farmer receives ₹4,000 annually in 2 instalments of ₹2,000 per crop season. The current instalment aims to support farming activities during the 2025-26 Rabi season. This assistance helps cover expenses such as seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and labour.
The scheme also extends support to landless agricultural families. Under the livelihood support initiative, eligible households receive ₹12,500 in 3 tranches to develop alternative income sources. Beneficiaries can select from various livelihood units based on their needs, ensuring a sustainable income stream alongside agriculture.
A unique component of CM Kisan Yojana is the Krushi Bidya Nidhi Yojana. It provides education support to children of beneficiary families. This aid enables youth from farming communities to pursue higher education, enhancing their long-term potential and reducing the burden of education expenses on agricultural families.
