The Maharashtra government has begun a verification process for more than 26 lakh beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana. This follows reports of ineligible individuals receiving benefits under the scheme, as per the news reports.

District administrations have been instructed to carry out physical checks of applications. The verification will be conducted based on the eligibility criteria set under the scheme. Local administrations will submit reports after completing the process.

Anganwadi Workers to Conduct Inspection

Anganwadi workers have been assigned to conduct door-to-door inspections. Their task is to confirm the details of beneficiaries and remove names that do not meet the requirements. This includes checking age, household limits, and identity information.

According to the news reports, approximately 14,000 men improperly received over ₹21 crore in payments from the scheme over a 10-month period. A separate investigation also discovered that more than 2,000 government employees had taken advantage of the program.

About the Scheme

As per the reports, the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana allows a maximum of 2 women from a single household to receive benefits. The eligible age range is 21 to 65 years. Each eligible woman receives ₹1,500 per month as part of the scheme’s provisions.

As per news reports, officials have found cases where more than 2 women from the same family have been registered. There are also instances of beneficiaries outside the permitted age bracket receiving payments. These discrepancies have prompted the current verification exercise.

Authorities will match the information provided in applications with government databases. This will help identify duplicate entries and other inconsistencies. Beneficiaries found in violation of the rules will be removed from the scheme.
