The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a 3% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA). The decision comes just days before Diwali, offering financial relief amid rising living costs.

The announcement was made in Shimla during the Biennial General Convention of the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board Employees Union. The Chief Minister’s declaration follows similar moves by the Karnataka and Central governments, both of which recently increased DA for their employees.

3% DA Hike to Be Reflected in October Salary

According to Chief Minister Sukhu, the increased DA will be included in the October salary, which employees will receive in November. This means both employees and pensioners of the Himachal Pradesh government will soon see a rise in their monthly pay or pension.

In addition, arrears for the period from April to September 2025 will also be credited in October. The government has stated that separate orders will be issued for pending arrears from July 2023 to March 2025, ensuring that all dues are systematically cleared.

3% DA Hike for Himachal Pradesh Employees: What It Means

Dearness Allowance (DA) is a cost-of-living adjustment paid to government employees and pensioners to help them cope with inflation. It is calculated as a percentage of the basic salary or pension and is revised periodically to reflect changes in consumer prices.

The latest hike of 3% takes the total DA for Himachal Pradesh government employees to 14.25%, up from the previous 12.25%. The move is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to thousands of state employees and retirees.

Centre and Other States Also Announce DA Hike

The Himachal Pradesh government’s announcement comes soon after similar decisions elsewhere.

  • On October 1, 2025, the Union Cabinet approved a 3% DA and DR increase for Central Government employees and pensioners, raising their rate from 55% to 58%.
  • The Karnataka government also recently declared a 2% DA hike, which will benefit both employees and pensioners.

These back-to-back announcements across states reflect a broader effort to offset inflationary pressures and support government staff across India.

Conclusion

The 3% DA hike ahead of Diwali is a welcome gift for Himachal Pradesh’s government employees and pensioners. It not only enhances their income but also demonstrates the government’s recognition of their contribution. As inflation continues to affect households, such timely revisions play a key role in maintaining financial stability and morale among public sector workers.
