The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique identifier that allows Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) members to manage their provident fund accounts online. It is required to check PF balance, download passbooks, transfer accounts, and submit withdrawal claims.
If you have forgotten your UAN, you can retrieve it online using the official EPFO Member Portal or the government's UMANG mobile application. The process requires basic details such as your registered mobile number and Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID.
The UAN links all your EPF member IDs across different employers under a single account. It enables subscribers to access EPF services online, update KYC details, track contributions, and file claims without visiting an EPFO office.
The Finance Ministry has also approved an 8.25% interest rate on EPF deposits for FY 2025–26, making it the third consecutive year that subscribers will receive the same rate on their EPF savings.
If you have forgotten your UAN, follow these steps:
Visit the EPFO Member Portal and open the "Know Your UAN" page.
Enter your registered mobile number.
Select an identification document such as Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID.
Fill in the required details and the captcha code.
Verify the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
If the verification is successful, your UAN will be displayed and sent via SMS.
If the portal displays multiple UANs, it may indicate duplicate UANs linked to your records, which should be resolved with EPFO.
You can also recover your UAN through the UMANG app by following these steps:
Open the UMANG app and search for EPFO.
Select Employee Centric Services and tap Know Your UAN.
Enter your registered mobile number and captcha, then verify the OTP.
Choose Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID as your identification method.
Enter your name and date of birth as per EPFO records.
Tap Show My UAN to view the number on screen. The UAN will also be sent via SMS.

If you remember only your old PF number (Member ID), you can still retrieve your UAN.
In the UMANG app, select Member ID instead of Aadhaar or PAN during verification. Enter your old PF number, name, and date of birth, then complete OTP verification. Your UAN will be displayed and sent via SMS.
The same option is available on the EPFO portal by selecting Member ID while using the Know Your UAN service.
If you receive the error message "ORA-20001 – demographic details do not match", it means the details in your EPFO account do not match your Aadhaar records. This could be due to differences in your name, date of birth, gender, or spelling.
In such cases, you must first update the mismatched details in your EPFO records before retrieving or updating your UAN.
EPF members who have forgotten their UAN can recover it online through the EPFO Member Portal or the UMANG app using their registered mobile number and Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID. Keeping your UAN accessible helps you manage your EPF account, monitor contributions, and access various EPFO services without delays.
