The Department of Posts has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 60 days’ emoluments for eligible employees for 2025-26, as per news reports.

The order, issued on October 16, 2026, also provides for ex-gratia payments to Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and ad-hoc bonuses for eligible casual labourers.

Employees Covered Under the Bonus Order

The bonus applies to Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C employees, and non-gazetted Group B employees. Regularly engaged GDS employees are covered under the ex-gratia provision, while eligible full-time and temporary-status casual labourers may receive an ad-hoc bonus.

Employees who retired, resigned, left service or proceeded on deputation between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, are also eligible, subject to the conditions in the order.

Bonus Amount for Regular Postal Employees

The bonus is calculated using average monthly emoluments, with a ceiling of ₹7,000 per month. The prescribed formula is:

Bonus = (Average monthly emoluments × 60) ÷ 30.4

At the ₹7,000 ceiling, the maximum bonus works out to approximately ₹13,816. The calculation includes basic pay, dearness allowance (DA), SB allowance, deputation duty allowance, and training allowance for faculty members at training institutes.

Deductions may apply for extraordinary leave and dies-non periods, as specified in the order.

Bonus for Gramin Dak Sevaks

For GDS employees who remained on duty throughout the accounting year, the bonus is calculated using their average monthly Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and corresponding DA. The monthly amount is capped at ₹7,000.

Employees who joined during the year, were put off duty or left service may receive a proportionate payment, depending on their period of service and the applicable conditions.

Eligibility Rules for Casual Labourers

Casual labourers must have completed at least 240 days of eight-hour work annually for three consecutive years or more by March 31, 2026. For offices following a five-day working week, the requirement is 206 days annually for three years.

The bonus calculation uses notional monthly wages of ₹1,200. Where actual monthly wages are lower, the actual amount is considered. The Department of Posts will meet the expenditure from its sanctioned grant for 2026-27.
