Centre Sanctions 30-Day Ad Hoc Bonus for Eligible Government Employees for 2025-26

The Central government has approved a 30-day ad-hoc bonus for eligible employees for the accounting year 2025-26, according to news reports.
The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, issued the order on 15 October 2026, conveying the President’s approval for the payment.
Which Employees Are Eligible?
The bonus covers Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees who are not covered by a productivity-linked bonus scheme. Eligible personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces and the Armed Forces are also included.
Employees of Union Territory administrations following the Central government’s emolument structure can receive the payment if they are not covered by another bonus or ex-gratia scheme.
Bonus Amount and Calculation
The monthly emoluments ceiling for calculating the bonus is ₹7,000. Employees whose average monthly emoluments are at least this amount will receive ₹6,908 for 30 days.
The calculation is based on monthly emoluments, subject to the ₹7,000 ceiling, multiplied by 30 and divided by 30.4. This gives ₹6,907.89, rounded to ₹6,908.
Employees with average monthly emoluments below ₹7,000 will receive a lower amount. Those who have completed less than 12 months of eligible service will receive a proportionate payment.
Service Conditions
Employees must have completed at least six months of continuous service during 2025-26. Under the general rule, they must also have been in service on 31 March 2026.
The order allows proportionate payments to employees who superannuated, retired on medical invalidation or died before that date, provided they completed at least six months of regular service during the year.
Employees deputed to state governments, Union Territory administrations or public sector undertakings will be governed by the applicable bonus or incentive scheme of the borrowing organisation.
Bonus for Casual Labourers
Casual labourers in offices following a six-day week must have worked at least 240 days in each of three years. Those in offices following a five-day week must have worked at least 206 days in each year.
Their bonus will be calculated using a monthly ceiling of ₹1,200. For 30 days, this amounts to ₹1,184. Those earning below the ceiling will receive a lower payment based on their actual emoluments.
Budget Provision
The expenditure will be met from the sanctioned budgets of the respective ministries and departments for the financial year 2026-27. All payments will be rounded to the nearest rupee.
