PNB MetLife Introduces Momentum Quality Index Fund Under Two ULIPs

PNB MetLife India Insurance Company has launched the Momentum Quality Index Fund under its Smart GEM and SIPP Pro unit-linked insurance plans (ULIPs). The fund is passively managed and tracks the customised BSE 500 Momentum Quality 50 Index.
The new fund offer (NFO) under Smart GEM opened on October 19 and closes on October 29. The offer under SIPP Pro will close on November 4. Both have an initial net asset value (NAV) of ₹10 per unit.
The insurer has scheduled the allotment of units for October 30 under Smart GEM and November 5 under SIPP Pro.
Fund Tracks Momentum and Quality Factors
The fund uses two factors to determine its investment exposure: momentum and quality. Momentum looks at prevailing stock price trends, while quality focuses on the financial fundamentals of businesses.
The index has been customised for PNB MetLife by BSE Index Services to meet the insurer's investment requirements under applicable Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) norms.
The fund follows a rules-based approach and does not rely solely on company size to determine its exposure. As a passively managed fund, it aims to track the benchmark rather than select investments independently to outperform it. Its performance will depend on the underlying index and market conditions.
Investment Risks and Lock-In Rules
The fund is available through ULIPs, which combine market-linked investments with life insurance cover. It is therefore different from a standalone mutual fund index scheme.
PNB MetLife has identified long-term financial goals, including retirement planning, as potential uses for the fund. However, returns are not guaranteed, and policyholders bear the investment risk.
The ULIP products carry a five-year lock-in period. Policyholders cannot fully or partially withdraw or surrender their investments during the first five years of the contract, according to the company's disclosures.
