Mirae Asset Mutual Fund has introduced a new investment product called the Mirae Asset Silver ETF FoF, providing investors with an indirect route to invest in silver. The scheme follows a fund-of-funds structure, investing primarily in units of the Mirae Asset Silver ETF.

The offering aims to give investors exposure to silver through the mutual fund framework without the need to purchase or store the physical metal.

NFO Timeline and Investment Details

The new fund offer (NFO) for the scheme opened for subscription recently and will remain available to investors until 18 March. After the NFO period, the scheme is scheduled to reopen for continuous purchase and redemption on 25 March.

Investors can participate with a minimum investment of ₹5,000, with additional investments permitted in multiples of ₹1 thereafter.

Fund Management and Structure

The scheme will be managed by Ritesh Patel and Akshay Udeshi.

As a fund-of-funds structure, the scheme does not invest directly in physical silver. Instead, it allocates capital to the Mirae Asset Silver ETF, which holds the underlying commodity. This structure allows investors to gain exposure through a mutual fund route.

Silver’s Dual Role in the Global Economy

Silver functions both as a precious metal and an industrial input. While it is traditionally considered a store of value, its demand is increasingly tied to industrial sectors.

Key areas of consumption include:

  • Electronics manufacturing
  • Solar energy components
  • Electric vehicle technologies
  • Various industrial applications

Because of this dual role, silver prices often reflect broader economic activity alongside investment demand.

Factors Influencing the Silver Market

The silver market in 2026 is influenced by a combination of global and domestic factors. These include:

  • Industrial demand trends
  • Investment flows into commodity markets
  • Currency movements and interest rate cycles
  • Mining supply levels
  • Geopolitical developments

In India, additional demand drivers include jewellery consumption, investor interest and expanding usage in renewable energy and electronics production.

Investment Access Through the Mutual Fund Route

According to Siddharth Srivastava, the new scheme offers investors a structured way to participate in silver through the mutual fund framework.

The fund-of-funds model allows investors to avoid handling physical silver while benefiting from the transparency and regulatory oversight associated with mutual fund investments.

However, he also noted that commodity prices may experience volatility due to changing global economic conditions and market developments.

Conclusion

The launch of the Mirae Asset Silver ETF FoF adds another option for investors seeking exposure to silver through mutual funds. By investing in the underlying silver ETF, the scheme provides indirect participation in commodity price movements while maintaining the structure of a regulated investment product. As with other commodity-linked investments, performance may be influenced by a range of global economic and market factors.
