Kotak Mutual Fund has appointed Kalpesh Jain as Fund Manager for its Specialised Investment Funds (SIF), the company said in a statement. The role is aligned with its entry into the new category introduced by the market regulator.
The fund house intends to offer SIF products under the Infinity SIF label. Details on schemes and timelines have not been disclosed.
The SIF category has been introduced by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to create an intermediate structure between mutual funds and portfolio management services.
These products require a minimum investment of ₹10 lakh. They allow fund managers more flexibility in portfolio construction compared to traditional mutual fund schemes, while remaining within a regulated framework.
In total, 7 strategies have been permitted across equity, debt, and hybrid segments.
Jain has over 18 years of experience in financial markets, covering fund management, capital markets, and advisory roles.
He has previously worked with Tata Asset Management Company and Julius Baer. His earlier roles involved managing portfolios and developing investment approaches across asset classes.
Asset management companies have begun preparing for SIF launches following regulatory approval. The category is being positioned for investors seeking differentiated investment strategies within a structured environment.
Nilesh Shah said the new framework provides scope to offer strategies supported by defined investment processes and risk management practices.
Kotak AMC’s appointment of Jain comes ahead of its entry into the SIF segment. The category remains in an early stage, with product rollouts expected as asset managers expand their offerings.
