Indian equity markets saw a strong rebound on January 22, with benchmark indices rallying sharply in early trade. The Sensex jumped over 800 points, while the Nifty gained nearly 1% to move past 25,400, supported by positive global signals and strong buying across sectors.
The rally was broad-based, with large-cap, midcap, and small-cap stocks all participating. Both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose over 1.5% in the early hours.
US President Donald Trump, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, struck a softer tone on geopolitical issues. He said a basic framework was being discussed regarding Greenland after talks with NATO, and clarified that new tariffs on European countries were not required.
He also ruled out the use of military force, which helped calm markets that were earlier worried about rising global tensions.
Asian stock markets traded firmly higher, giving a positive lead to Indian equities. The improved global sentiment following Trump’s remarks boosted risk appetite across the region.
The rally was not limited to select stocks. Automobile, IT, metals, pharma, media, and financial stocks all traded in the green, indicating healthy and widespread participation by investors.
