UIDAI Extends Free Online Aadhaar Document Update Till June 14, 2026

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online document update service on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026, as per the reports. This facility allows Aadhaar holders to update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online without any charge. The earlier deadline for the free service was June 14, 2025.
What Can Be Updated Online
Only selected demographic details can be updated using this online service. These include:
- Name (only if change is allowed under guidelines)
- Address
- Other details supported by PoI and PoA documents
Updates related to mobile number, email ID, photograph, or biometrics are not covered under the online facility. These changes still require a physical visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra and are subject to standard fees.

Steps to Update on the Portal
Users can visit the myAadhaar portal and log in using their Aadhaar number and OTP. The process includes uploading self-attested scans of PoI and PoA documents. File formats accepted are JPEG, PNG, or PDF, with a size limit of 2 MB each. After submission, a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) is generated, which can be used to track the update status.
For address changes, users need to select the option ‘Proceed to Update Address’, enter the updated address, and upload supporting documentation. The URN is issued after submission, and the updated Aadhaar can be downloaded once the request is approved.
Purpose of the Extension
According to UIDAI’s official communication, the extension aims to help Aadhaar number holders keep their records current, especially in cases of address shifts, name changes, or other updates due to life events.
Conclusion
This free update facility is available only through the official myAadhaar website and will remain active till June 14, 2026. Other forms of updates, including biometric changes, will continue to follow existing processes and charges.
