Indian benchmark indices extended their winning streak for a sixth straight session on August 21, with the Nifty closing above the 25,050 mark.

The Sensex rose by 142.87 points (0.17%) to finish at 82,000.71, while the Nifty ended 33.20 points higher (0.13%) at 25,083.75. Overall market sentiment remained positive, with around 2,025 stocks advancing, 1,886 declining, and 145 remaining unchanged.

In terms of sectoral performance, the Pharma index gained 1%, and the Realty index was up 0.4%. On the downside, the Auto index slipped 0.3%, while the FMCG index dropped 0.6%.

Conclusion

Markets closed higher for the sixth straight session, with the Nifty topping 25,050 and sectoral performance showing mixed trends. Gains in pharma and realty helped offset losses in FMCG and auto. Cipla, Dr Reddy’s, and Bajaj Finserv led the gainers, while Tata Consumer, Bajaj Auto, and Powergrid were among the top laggards.
