Tata Power with Suzlon Energy will set up a 700 megawatt (MW) wind power project in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, as per the MoneyControl reports. The project will be linked to the central grid and is expected to generate about 1,840 million units of electricity annually. This will be the first wind power project in the state since 2019.

Investment Plans

The project involves an investment of ₹6,000 crore and is part of a memorandum of understanding signed in March 2025 between Tata Power and the state government. Under the agreement, Tata Power aims to develop renewable energy capacity of up to 7 gigawatts (GW) in Andhra Pradesh.

Equipment Supply Agreement

Tata Power has signed a supply agreement with Suzlon Energy for S144 wind turbine generators. The turbines and key components, including blades, gearboxes, generators, and towers, will be manufactured at Suzlon’s facility in Andhra Pradesh. The factory was refurbished and resumed operations in 2024.

The project will be developed under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy announced by the Andhra Pradesh government in October 2024. The policy targets the addition of over 160 GW of renewable capacity in five years, with a stated investment potential of ₹10 trillion and employment generation of around 7.5 lakh jobs.

Other Renewable Investments in the State

The state has seen other renewable energy commitments in recent months. NTPC Green has announced projects worth ₹2.08 trillion, Vedanta’s Serentica ₹50,000 crore, SAEL Industries ₹6,000 crore, and Brookfield ₹50,000 crore. Reliance Industries has signed an MoU to invest ₹65,000 crore in compressed biogas plants, while Greenko Group is developing a ₹35,070 crore integrated renewable project.

Andhra Pradesh currently has about 9 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, compared to approximately 23 GW each in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Conclusion

The Tata Power–Suzlon agreement adds new wind capacity to Andhra Pradesh and marks the restart of large-scale wind projects in the state after a gap of several years.
