Serentica Signs Long-Term PPA with MRF for 170 MW Hybrid Renewable Project

Serentica Renewables has announced a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with MRF Ltd to develop a 170 MW solar-wind hybrid project. The agreement is designed to supply captive renewable energy to power MRF’s manufacturing operations across India. This collaboration aligns with MRF’s ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability and reduce carbon emissions through clean energy adoption.
Details of the 170 MW Hybrid Project
Under the agreement, Serentica Renewables will build and operate a 170 MW hybrid project that combines both solar and wind power generation. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) has been created to facilitate the project, in which MRF holds a minority captive stake while Serentica retains the remaining ownership.
The clean power generated will be transmitted through the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) network, ensuring steady energy supply to MRF’s manufacturing facilities.
Supporting MRF’s Sustainability Vision
The renewable energy supplied through this arrangement will enable MRF to meet a substantial portion of its electricity demand with clean power. This initiative is in line with the company’s long-term sustainability and net-zero objectives. By using hybrid renewable energy, MRF aims to reduce dependency on conventional power sources while maintaining operational efficiency.
Round-the-Clock Renewable Power Delivery
The hybrid setup integrates solar and wind generation to provide consistent renewable energy throughout the day. This approach ensures that energy supply remains stable even during fluctuating weather conditions, supporting MRF’s large-scale manufacturing requirements. The arrangement represents a practical model for industries seeking reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
Serentica’s Expanding Renewable Energy Portfolio
Founded in 2022, Serentica Renewables focuses on providing firm dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) solutions to industries that are difficult to decarbonise. The company has reached a total renewable energy capacity of 1,000 MW across multiple states in India. Its projects utilise a mix of solar, wind, and energy storage technologies to ensure consistent power generation.

Conclusion
Backed by a USD 650 million investment from KKR, Serentica is working toward supplying more than 50 billion units of renewable energy each year. This effort is expected to contribute to the reduction of approximately 47 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
The partnership with MRF marks another milestone in Serentica’s journey to expand hybrid and clean energy solutions for industrial clients. This collaboration underscores the growing role of renewable energy in supporting India’s industrial and environmental goals.
