Sensex Near 78,600, Up Around 100 Points; IT, Auto and Consumer Durables Gain, Banks and Utilities Decline

The BSE Sensex traded around the 78,600 level on August 10, 2026, gaining 95.70 points, or 0.12%, to 78,594.87 as of 11:07 AM IST. The index opened at 78,501.59 and moved between 78,298.92 and 78,676.98 during the session.
The broader market showed a positive trend, with 2,325 stocks advancing compared with 1,671 declines in the BSE. A total of 4,235 stocks were traded, while 239 remained unchanged.
IT, Auto and Consumer Durables Lead Sectoral Gains
The BSE Consumer Durables index gained 1.12%, making it the top performer among the sectoral indices provided. The BSE Focused IT index rose 1.02%, while the BSE Information Technology index advanced 0.99%.
The BSE Auto index gained 0.79%, followed by the BSE Metal index at 0.70%. Other sectors that traded higher included Commodities at 0.60%, Telecommunication at 0.44%, Industrials at 0.35%, Housing Finance at 0.27%, Oil & Gas at 0.20% and Realty at 1.59%.
The BSE Energy and Financial Services indices were largely flat, gaining 0.01% each.
Banking, Utilities and Insurance Trade Lower
Banking and financial segments were among the weaker areas of the market. The BSE Insurance index declined 0.53%, followed by the BSE Utilities index, which fell 0.41%.
The BSE PSU Bank index declined 0.38%, while the BSE Bankex fell 0.23%. The BSE Top 10 Banks index declined 0.13%, and the BSE Private Banks index was down 0.06%.
Other sectors in negative territory included Services, which declined 0.10%, Power at 0.07%, and FMCG at 0.02%.
