SEBI Signs MoU With Bank of England on Clearing Corporation Oversight

SEBI has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bank of England to improve cooperation and information sharing around clearing corporations recognised by the Indian regulator.
Announced on October 28, 2026, the agreement sets out how the two authorities will work together on oversight of central counterparties, which play a role in clearing financial market transactions.
What the Agreement Covers
Under the MoU, the Bank of England can rely on SEBI’s regulatory and supervisory work, in line with the laws and regulations applicable to both authorities.
The arrangement also includes safeguards for the UK’s financial stability. SEBI said the agreement reflects the importance of cooperation between regulators in different countries to support international clearing activities.
Why Cross-Border Cooperation Matters
Financial market activities can involve institutions and transactions across national borders. The agreement provides a framework for SEBI and the Bank of England to exchange relevant information and coordinate their work concerning SEBI-recognised clearing corporations.
The announcement does not specify any immediate operational changes or new requirements for investors.
